Spotted: Choklat
First and foremost, I love you Brad Churchill!
One day, I found my girl friend Jess throwing a chocolate bar into my Neverfull. I pulled it out and saw 70% cocoa and I started questioning our friendship. Last time I had a chocolate bar from a chocolatier store that says 70% cocoa, I had to get a double scoop chocolate ice cream to get rid of the bitterness and waxy feeling on my tongue. I was really skeptical about this Choklat bar, but Jessica said to try it. So, I did and OMG! I went online the moment I was freed from my sometimes get-in-the-way-of-fun job and ordered myself a bunch more. Brad Churchill, the creator of these amazing chocolate bars and pops, has formally introduced me to real flavourful and satisfying chocolate.
I am no expert in chocolate. They pretty much tasted the same to me until I had a Choklat bar! I can actually tasted the different notes of apricot, honey, raisins, caramel, spices and others that I have no vocabulary for. They come one by one and layer after layer as the chocolate melted ever so slowly and smoothly. To me, it’s like drifting into a nap with soft gentle music in a breezy summer afternoon on a pillow top next to the window shaded by a birch willow . The transitions of flavours is noticable without bitterness and definitely not waxy at all. English being my 2nd language while my Chinese is getting rusty, my description here doesn’t even do the justice. You really ought to try it yourself. I know I am getting their truffles after I am done with my stash here. I can help you out-of-towner get some to try. Just drop me a line!
I learned on the website that a lot of work went into making this chocolate. Instead of buying ready made “chocolate” in forms of powder, chips, chunks and bricks; Brad process chocolate beans himself including bean selection, fermentation, roasting and refining to create the complex flavour and heavenly texture in his final products. So, don’t give him hard time if you see him resting on the couch in the store.
From my “shopping experience” with Choklat online. I was disappointed the website only allows shopping with Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers. Moi the Apple fan could not buy with my Safari (why Brad, why?). Nothing is standing in my way to another Choklat bar at this point. Once I put in my order via Internet Explorer I got a neat little email confirming order details, and another quick 20 minutes later, I got another email telling me my order is ready for pick up. I feel loved.
